Greenwood man charged with murder after Clinton woman found shot to death

A Greenwood man was arrested on Friday night and charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing a Clinton woman earlier in the day.

Laurens County Sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call at 3:42pm at a residence in the 100 block of Millpond Road in Clinton.

The caller stated that a black female, around 40 years of age, was going into cardiac arrest. Clinton Public Safety officers responded to the incident location and found the female unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body. 

After being able to unsuccessfully revive the victim, investigators notified the Laurens County Coroner. 

Coroner Nick Nichols identified the woman as Kimberly Smith, 40, of Clinton.

Investigators with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office arrested Clinton Anthony Smith, 40, of Greenwood around 7:30pm. Investigators are currently on scene with the assistance of the State Law Enforcement Division processing evidence at this time.
