Fun meets learning at Thornwell’s summer program

Four- to 12-year-olds have enjoyed exciting summers of fun and learning in Thornwell’s MOMENTUM summer day program for the past three years. Now, Thornwell is accepting registrations for this year’s program, which begins June 5.

“MOMENTUM offers a great mix of academics and fun so that children can keep learning when they’re not in school,” said Marianne Hollingsworth, MOMENTUM’s program director.

Children can keep up the momentum (where the program gets its name) of what they’ve learned in school by continuing to practice math and reading during the summer months. Depending on their academic levels, children receive remediation or acceleration in these areas. MOMENTUM has helped children gain three to six months of math and reading over the 10 weeks of summer.

Children have fun while they’re gaining academically. Each week of the program features a different theme such as nature, science, and history. Plus, children will participate in field trips and outdoor activities. All children who participate in MOMENTUM are able to enjoy Thornwell’s amenities, including the ball fields, farm, gym and newly renovated swimming pool.

MOMENTUM runs from 7:30am until 5:30pm on weekdays (Mon – Fri) throughout the weeks of the summer (while school is out). The cost is $100 per week. For those who register before May 1, the required registration fee is $25. Every child who enrolls receives a MOMENTUM t-shirt to keep at the end of the summer.
