Team Clinton is now complete for a trip to the Science Olympiad Nationals next month, as the Clinton High School team won the SC Championship on Saturday.

CHS defeated the Academic Magnet School of Charleston, 59 to 91 (low score wins), in day-long competition at Newberry College. The Clinton Middle School Science Olympiad Team won its State Championship last month.

The Clinton High team defeated Academic Magnet for the second consecutive year (the 2016 margin of victory was just 11 points), after Academic Magnet broke Clinton's string of 6 consecutive titles in 2015.

Clinton High placed in the Top 6 in 18 of the 20 events contested on Saturday. Top place finishes were recorded by the Clinton teams competing in Remote Sensor, Write It Do It, Helicopter, Forensics, Rocks & Minerals, Experimental Design, Robotic Arm, Astronomy, Electric Vehicle, Dynamic Planet, and Towers.

A team in its first year of statewide competition, May River High School, finished 3rd behind Clinton and Academic Magnet. Bluffton High School's team was the Sportsmanship winner.

Every student receiving a 1st Place Gold Medal in the competition is eligible for a $2,000 Newberry College scholarship.
