That was merely what the Red Devils did, defeating the Wolverines, 55-47. Jahleed Cook led Clinton with 16 points, and Zay Hurley added 14. The shooting was awful as the Red Devils connected on 22 out of 61 field goal attempts and only nine out of 21 free throws. Woodruff (4-15, 1-9) was just as bad.
"We never could get in our rhythm offensively," Clinton head coach Eddie Romines said. "Against a zone, you've got to work the ball and be patient enough against the zone to find creases in it. We've been doing that, but we didn't do it tonight."
The difference in the game was a 12-2 Clinton run in the first 2:56 of the second half.
"We got a lead," Romines said. "They cut it to six at one point (in the fourth quarter). It wasn't a pretty win."
As for Newberry, with which Clinton split the regular-season contests in a pair of games in which the Bulldogs won by three in Clinton (71-68) and fell by two at home (53-51), Romines has little doubt his team will regain its intensity.
"I don't think this game will have any effect on the way we play Thursday at all," Romines said.
The Clinton boys will play Newberry to decide the region title at Woodruff High School on Thursday at 7:30pm. The Clinton girls will play Chapman to decide third place in the region at 6pm on Thursday at Woodruff High School.

A victory would have put the Lady Red Devils into a tie for second place in the region, but Woodruff's 48-40 victory wasn't as close as the final score indicated.

Woodruff (12-9, 7-3) won the second seed (behind Newberry) behind 17 points from Zavia Jeter and 11 from Kaliyah Gilliard. The Wolverines outrebounded the Lady Red Devils, 35-27, and hit 37 percent from the floor.
