With a new head coach leading them, the Laurens Academy girl’s basketball team is preparing for their opening tip-off against Covenant Christian Academy at home on December 2. Completing their third week of practice under the leadership of Head Coach Travis Plowden, the team has had to learn a new offense and defense, but Plowden said the team is learning quickly.

“I’ve been pleased. We’re coming together as a team,” said Plowden.

Plowden said his team had much left to learn and had to be consistent in applying the new offensive and defensive schemes, but said he was encouraged after the team’s first two scrimmages last Saturday.

“We can play very good at times,” said Plowden. “We’ve got to develop ourselves as individuals before we can be consistent and productive.”

Plowden said no long-term goals have been set for the team so far, but said he expects his team to keep working hard every day to prepare for the 2009-2010 season.
