For the second time in less than 48 hours, a severe storm ripped through Laurens causing additional property damage, downed trees and power outages as residents were still reeling from Tuesday's massive storm.

Shortly after 5:30pm on Thursday, a severe thunderstorm packing high winds and rain pelted Laurens with a path very similar to the last storm. Downed trees were spotted on numerous streets in Laurens including Farley Avenue, West Main Street, Moreland Avenue, Furman Street and Sherwood Drive. The damaged trees caused power outages throughout town with the main concentration being around the West Main Street area.

A large tree downed utility lines on both sides of West Main Street just beside Kennedy Mortuary. The tree fell from the North side of West Main and draped across the entire street. Laurens CPW, Verizon, PRTC and Charter Communications had lines on those downed poles. A portion of West Main Street will be closed during the repairs.

According to Laurens CPW General Manager Dale Satterfield, there were 750 Laurens CPW customers without power after the storm. Satterfield indicated that all residents should have power restored by the end of the night. Duke Power reported 61 outages in Laurens County from the storm.

Laurens Police Chief Robin Morse said that no injuries had been reported and the only problems in the city were damaged homes and power outages.
