The four teams that competed were Gray Court Owings Middle School, Hickory Tavern Middle School, Hickory Tavern Elementary School and Laurens District 55 High School.
A total of 22 Upstate schools participated in the Region 1 tournament to secure a spot in the State Tournament on March 25-26 in Sumter, South Carolina.
To qualify to the state tournament, any middle or high school has to finish with a regional qualifying score that placed within the top six in South Carolina. A total of 24 high schools and over 30 middle schools competed in four sectional regionals to qualify.
Laurens District 55 High won 2nd place in the high school division, which qualifies them for the state championship. They will enter the state championship ranked #6. Sophomore Jonathan Stewart for being the 3rd place overall individual male in the high school division with his score of 281.
Hickory Tavern Middle School won 3rd place in the middle school division, which qualifies them for the state championship. They will enter the state championship ranked # 4 in the state.
Qualification for the elementary division was to finish in the top 12 schools in South Carolina. There were over 30 elementary programs that attempted to qualify.
Hickory Tavern Elementary won 2nd place in the elementary division, which qualifies them for the state championship. They will enter the state championship ranked #7 in the state.
Laurens District 55 was the only district to qualify a team in every division to compete in the state championship March 25 (elementary) and March 26 (middle and high school).
