“This planning process is an important step in helping move Main Street Laurens and the City of Laurens into the future,” said Jonathan Irick, Executive Director of Main Street Laurens. “This plan will ensure that future projects and funding are utilized to the fullest in order to make Downtown Laurens a place people and businesses want to come to.”
Many communities around Laurens have master plans in place and have been working off of them to guide their development. The economic enhancement team for Main Street Laurens decided now was the time to undertake this planning process.
Members of the community and all those interested in the future of Downtown Laurens are invited to stop by the design studio throughout the three days. Alta will be working on-site and will be available to meet with property owners, representatives, stakeholders, and interested citizens to answer questions and further refine ideas.
“We encourage members of the community to get involved in this process and come out to the public presentation on Thursday to learn where we go from here,” said Irick.
Main Street Laurens and Tee Coker, AICP-Planning Associate with Alta Planning, have developed a timeline for the process. The public is invited to attend a presentation of the initial plan on Thursday evening at 6PM in City Council chambers on the second floor of City Hall. Studio sessions and most public meetings will be held in council chambers in the Historic Laurens County Courthouse.
Main Street Laurens USA, Inc. is a non-profit 501 c 3 organization whose mission it is to promote, improve and preserve the unique character and economic vitality of Downtown Laurens. Their vision is for historic Downtown Laurens to be the heart of the community, bringing people together to shop, socialize and have fun.
