Former LDHS football player killed in Simpsonville crash

A former football player and 2016 graduate of Laurens District High School was killed in a deadly crash in Simpsonville on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:28am on Fairview Rd. near Simpsonville.

According to Trooper Joe Hovis with the SCHP, a 20-year-old Gray Court man was traveling north on Fairview Rd. in a 1998 Mazda, when he crossed the center line and hit a 2007 Nissan pickup head-on.

The driver of the Mazda was not wearing a seatbelt, was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted.  

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Craig Maurice Taylor, Jr., 20, of 125 Crawford Rd. in Gray Court. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office said the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

The driver of the Nissan was wearing a seatbelt, was injured and transported by EMS to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the SCHP.
