Three members of a Laurens family were killed just before 10pm on Saturday night after a head-on collision in McConnells, just outside of Rock Hill.

The York County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Jim Edward Daniels, 60, of Laurens, Patchell Daniels, 39, of Laurens and Michaiah Daniels, 5, of Laurens. Also killed in the accident was Mitchell Alexander Jeter, 22, of Rock Hill. The coroner’s office said that all four were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to District 55 superintendent Dr. Stephen Peters, Michaiah Daniels was a student at Hickory Tavern Elementary School.

Jeter was a former standout football player and wrestler at Rock Hill High School. He was also a former defensive lineman for The Citadel.

Trooper Joe Hovis, with the SCHP, said Daniels was driving a 1995 Pontiac and Jeter was driving a 2004 Honda. Hovis said that Jeter ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and cross the center line before hitting the other vehicle head-on.

The incident is under investigation by the SCHP.
