“Recipes for Success” is the theme of National School Lunch Week 2017 (NSLW 17) set for October 9-13.

Throughout the week-long celebration in Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55), students may submit a favorite recipe for the chance to be their school’s grand prize winner. In addition to the contest and grand prize, all students will receive giveaways in the cafeteria during NSLW 17. The celebration week is an opportunity to emphasize the healthy foods provided for students in the nation’s schools and to educate parents and students about the local district’s lunch program.

“School lunches are healthier than ever,” said Wanda Knight, Laurens 55 Director of Student Nutrition. “We offer at least two entrees and four fruits/vegetables each day in our cafeterias. Menus include whole grains and foods with limited fat, calories, and sodium.”

The National School Lunch Program has been serving the nation’s children for over 60 years and currently serves approximately 30 million student lunches each day. In LCSD 55, approximately 4,700 student lunches are served each day.

The “Recipes for Success” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association.  Parents and students can follow the fun using the hashtag #NSLW17.
