Laurens School District 55 released a statement on Thursday morning after rumors swirled about a student at Laurens District High School bringing a gun to school.

“A Laurens District High School student made a threat on social media about bringing a gun to school because of other students spreading rumors about him. We are very pleased that our students brought this issue to our attention and we were able to intervene before the situation got out of hand. The school has spoken to the student and his guardian and the school suspended him pending further action. The student did not bring a gun to school and none of our students or staff were ever in any danger.”

District 55 also sent a message to parents, informing them of the situation.
