The South Carolina Department of Education recently announced that Michelle Spires, the media specialist at Gray Court-Owings, was one of two winners in the “Read Your Way to the Big Game” door decoration contest.

I am completely amazed,” said Spires. “My goal was to encourage students and teachers to participate in the door decorating and reading challenge for the ‘Read Your Way to the Big Game’ contest by participating myself. I am honored to have been chosen as one of the winners from this statewide contest. There were several people who helped my vision for the door become reality, so I need to thank Mindy Miyares, Gussie Lawson and Tommy Spires for lending a helping hand.”

The South Carolina Department of Education will send each winner an award of $500. The contest was open to teachers and media specialists and was looking for the most decorative bulletin board, wall, or door, using “Read Your Way to the Big Game” as the theme for the decorations. Mary Grady, also a media specialist from Savannah Grove Elementary School in Florence School District One, was the other big winner.
