Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is planning a first-time event for the district.

“The Educator Recruitment Job Fair is an opportunity for those seeking certified positions to have face-to-face conversations with representatives from every school in District 55,” said Director of Human Resources Renee’ Madden.

The event, planned for March 1, will be held in the training room of the LCSD 55 Administrative Offices located at 301 Hillcrest Drive in Laurens from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Any candidate who wishes to participate in the Educator Recruitment Job Fair should pre-register online through the district’s website at www.laurens55.org.

“There are several positions available within the district at this time,” said Madden. “Educators with current or anticipated certification in any area are encouraged and invited to attend the event. Laurens 55 offers a full benefits package, extensive professional development opportunities, and a competitive salary package.”

The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) recently published results of the South Carolina Annual Educator Supply and Demand Survey. The survey is administered annually to all 82 public school districts in the state in an effort to collect data on rates of teachers entering the profession, leaving the classroom, and the overall number of vacant teaching positions.

Data from the 2017-2018 survey indicates that South Carolina has seen a steady decline over the last four years in the number of students graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree eligible for teacher certification. The number of completers dropped from 2060 in 2014-2015 to 1684 in 2016-2017. Data shows that there were 550 teaching positions still vacant throughout South Carolina when the 2017-2018 school year started.

LCSD55 is committed to the principle of equal opportunity. It is the policy of the district not to discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex, color, age, national origin, immigrant status, English-speaking status, familial status, or disability with regard to its students, employees, or applicants for admission or employment.
