Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday and the joys of reading, encourages more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.
To honor the good doctor and celebrate the fun and value of reading, schools across District 55 held a variety of events during the week of February 26 including themed dress up days, book character parades and more. Many schools also hosted local community members and invited them to read from their favorite children’s books.
NEA’s and LCSD 55’s goal is to show children the joy of reading and build a nation of readers. For more information on NEA's Read Across America, visit www.nea.org/readacross and www.readacrossamerica.org.
