Mr. Gossett was born May 4, 1937 in Clinton, to the late George Washington Gossett Sr. and Virginia Lee Quinn Gossett. He retired from Clinton Mill Plant #2 and was a member of the Clinton Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church (which he helped start with his brother Aaron). He was an avid outdoorsman and a huge fan of the Braves and Gamecocks. Ray loved Jesus and especially cherished hearing his beloved Sally May sing.
Surviving are a son, Ray Gossett Jr. and wife Dixie; three daughters, Ruthie Taylor, Carolyn Messick and husband Terry Sr., and Melinda Todd and husband Steve; a brother, Aaron Gossett and wife Ann; a sister, Retha Mae Eustace; eleven grandchildren, Terry Messick Jr. and wife Holly, Randell Messick and wife Crissy, Jimmy King Jr., Brandy Argote, Billy Lee Taylor and wife Jennifer, Eric King, Nikkie Taylor, Betty Jo Campbell and husband Carl, Dewayne Todd, Trey Gossett, and Kayle Todd; seventeen great-grandchildren; and special friends, James Croy and Wayne Samples. He was predeceased by two brothers, G.W. “DoddleBug” Gossett and Cheryl Gossett; a sister, Sue Ann Gossett; two grandchildren, Misty Gossett and Michelle Gossett; a great-grandchild, Angela Mardiaz; and a son-in-law, Billy Taylor.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19th, at the Clinton Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. Jason Ashley and Rev. Randell Messick. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memory Gardens.
