Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late William Goebel and Augusta Carlisle Baynes. Mr. Baynes was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. A member of Laurens First Baptist Church, Mr. Baynes was retired from Ford Motor Co. after 37 years of service.
He is survived by: sons, Robert J. Baynes and wife Kathy of Mesa, AZ, and Timothy D. Baynes and wife Vickie of Houston, TX; a daughter, Judi Mahrle and husband Paul of Simpsonville; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Goebel Baynes.
The family will receive friends at the Martha Franks Baptist Rasor Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Thursday, January 2, 2014, followed by funeral services at 10:30 am, in the Rasor Chapel, conducted by Dr. Russell Dean. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in M.J. Dolly Cooper National Cemetery in Anderson, SC, at 1:00 pm.
The family will be at the home of his daughter Judi Mahrle in Simpsonville.
