Todd would need three additional holes to win the title and collect the biggest individual win of his career.
"This is probably about as good as it gets for me,” Todd told www.amateurgolf.com. “Individually I've won the South Carolina Mid-Amateur and Carolina Mid-Amateur, but in my own world this is a big deal."
On the 17th hole, Todd was down two stokes. A 70-foot birdie putt by Todd and a bogey by Doug Hanzel put the two tied going to the 18th hole.
Both golfers parred the final hole, forcing extra holes. Playing the 18th hole, Todd and Hanzel parred the hole twice taking them to the 17th hole. Todd parred the 17th to defeat Hanzel by one stroke.
Todd shot 69-71-69 for the tournament.
"I just think to be part of the history of Sea Island and just how good the field was this year with a lot of guys that I've looked up to and respected for a long time,” Todd told www.amateurgolf.com. “To come away with a win, I couldn't be much happier and it just happened to be my week."
