Cantrell's walk-off gives Laurens a 4-3 win over Greenwood

Senior Matti Cantrell drove in the game-winning run with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Laurens Raiders a 4-3 win over the Greenwood Eagles on Thursday night at LDHS.

With the game tied 3-3, Cassy Plaia doubled to start the seventh for Laurens. Bailey Gibbs laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Plaia to third with one out. Cantrell then blasted a single to left field on the first pitch of her at-bat to plate Plaia and give Laurens the win.

Greenwood jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and one run in the third.

Laurens tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the third. Plaia doubled to start the inning and scored on a Cantrell single. Cantrell moved to third base on a steal and a passed ball. CJ Ginn walked and Annsley Nelson grounded out to score Cantrell. Octavia Johnson then doubled to score Ginn.  

Cantrell and Plaia were both 3 for 4. Plaia had three doubles and Cantrell drove in two runs. Johnson was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Taylor Powell pitched the last five innings of the game to pick up the win.

Laurens improves to 10-8 overall and will play at Clinton on Monday night at 7pm.
