A 5-run second inning by Dobyns-Bennett was all they needed to take a 9-4 win over the Laurens Raiders in the Green Wave Invitational in Easley on Friday.

Laurens led 2-0 after scoring one run in the first and one run in the second. In the first, Ty Foster singled and later scored on a groundout by Jared Cvetko. In the second, Layton Mahon reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a Nick Howell double.

Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, TN) answered with five runs in their half of the second. Laurens starter Nate Towles allowed five runs on seven hits in the inning.

The Raiders got back in the game with two runs in the fifth to narrow the margin to 5-4. Nate Weiss and Foster singled to start the inning. Weiss scored on a Cvetko groundout and Foster scored on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Jones.

Dobyns-Bennett put the game out of reach with a 4-run sixth inning off of reliever Matthew Holcombe to take the lead for good at 9-4.

Foster was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Kobe Williams was 2 for 3. Jones, Howell and Morgan French added hits for Laurens.

Laurens falls to 15-6 overall and 2-1 in the tournament. The Raiders will play on Saturday at 12:15pm at JB “Red” Owens Complex in Easley.
