Lady Raiders cruise past Clinton, 14-4

For the second time in four days, the Laurens Lady Raiders defeated the Clinton Lady Red Devils to complete a sweep of the season series 14-4 on Thursday night at LDHS.

Matti Cantrell led Laurens with three hits, including a double and a homerun, and five RBIs. Cantrell drove in runs on a home run in the second and a double in the third.

After Clinton scored two runs in the top of the first, Laurens grabbed an early lead with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Laurens scored on singles by CJ Ginn, Annsley Nelson, Micheala Weathers, Tamara Haney, and a groundout by Jillian Sward in the first inning.

Laurens took control of the game with three runs in the second to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Clinton scored two in the top of the third but that would be their last runs of the game. Laurens added three runs in the third and ended the game with two runs in the fifth.

Taylor Powell earned the win for Laurens. She went four and a third innings, giving up four runs, six hits and striking out one.

The Lady Raiders pounded out 16 hits. Cassy Plaia was 3 for 3 and Bailey Gibbs was 2 for 4. Ginn was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Rachel Delio was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Kalen Richardson led Clinton with two hits in three at-bats. MK Kelly was 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs.

Laurens improves to 13-8 on the season and will host Mauldin on Friday night at 7pm.
