Jones moved to leadoff spot for Batavia Muckdogs

Laurens native and Miami Marlins minor leaguer Thomas Jones struggled at the plate during his third week of the 2017 season with the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn League.

Batavia is 8-12 on the season, after finishing this past week with a record of 3-4.

Jones has batted second in the lineup all season and he continued in that spot for the first four games of the week. During that stretch, Jones was 0-16 with two walks and a run scored.

On Friday, Jones moved to the leadoff spot and he started to heat up at the plate. In his first game batting leadoff, Jones was 2 for 5 with a double and two runs scored.

On Saturday, Jones was 0 for 1 and was hit twice by a pitch.

Jones finished the week on Sunday with a 1 for 5 performance that included a run scored.

For the week, Jones was 3 for 27 but 3 for 11 once he moved to leadoff. He also had a double, two walks and scored four runs.

Over the first three weeks of the season (18 games), Jones is batting .176 with five doubles, a triple, eight runs scored and seven RBIs. His on-base percentage is .313.
