Laurens stays in 5A, returns to Region I in SCHSL realignment

Laurens District High School will remain in 5A after the SCHSL announced their realignment on Wednesday for 2018-20.

Laurens moved to 5A in 2016 after the SCHSL added a fifth classification. Laurens was previously a member of the 4A classification.

LDHS is currently 46th out of 48 AAAAA schools. LDHS has 1,607 students and Wando, the largest school in 5A, has 4,365 students. York is the smallest 5A school with 1,573 students. 

Laurens will move back to Region I with Easley, Greenwood, JL Mann, TL Hanna, Westside, Wade Hampton and Woodmont. Region I, II and III have eight teams each. Region IV and V have seven teams each and Region VI and VII have five teams each.

In football, the Raiders will face seven region opponents and will schedule one less non-region matchup.
