"A week and a half ago we were presented with the daunting task of replacing Erskine's winningest baseball coach in history," Peeler said, referring to longtime coach Kevin Nichols' recent move to the College of Charleston.
"Based on the 'Fleet Way' at Erskine, we wanted someone who was Christ-centered, had a reputation as a strong recruiter, and could maintain the level of excellence that our baseball program achieved under Kevin Nichols. Those are no small shoes to fill."
Peeler said Crocco was identified early as a potential candidate.
"He blew us away with what he brings to the table. Whenever a big transition like this occurs there will be growing pains, but Mark Crocco is the man for this task," he said, adding, "I know the future of Erskine baseball is not only in good hands but in God's hands."
Crocco comes to Erskine from Presbyterian College, where he served as Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
In 2015 the program set a Division I era record for wins (27) that included victories over South Carolina, Clemson, and #7 Central Florida. Presbyterian followed that up with another 27-win season in 2016 that saw the Blue Hose make their first appearance in the Big South Championship and set a Division I school record for runs score (321) and doubles (114).
Prior to the 2017 season Crocco was named the top recruiter in the Big South Conference by D1Baseball.com. During that season, the Blue Hose broke their record for wins again with 32 and made it to the championship game of the Big South Championship. The 2017 team also broke their record from the previous season with 323 runs scored.
Before joining the coaching staff at Presbyterian, Crocco served two seasons as an assistant coach at the United States Air Force Academy. He worked with the Falcons hitters and helped the Air Force to their most wins since 2002.
"I am deeply humbled, honored, and excited about becoming the next head baseball coach of Erskine College," Crocco said.
"The excellence that Coach Nichols brought to this program and the values of this institution are strong foundations to continue moving this baseball program forward. I could not be more passionate about giving the energies of my life to molding student-athletes in an environment where God is glorified."
