Raiders fall short to Rebels, 62-61

Sophomore Dee Foster scored 13 points in the second half to lead the Laurens Raiders in a 62-61 loss to the Byrnes Rebels on Tuesday night at LDHS.

Foster scored eight in the third quarter and five in the fourth quarter. He was at the line with 1.4 seconds to play with the Raiders down 62-60. Foster sank the first free throw but missed the second one. Byrnes got the rebound as the clock ran out.

Despite falling behind 19-10 in the first quarter, Laurens outscored and outplayed the Rebels in the final three quarters. The Raiders won the last three quarters 51-43.

Laurens chipped away at the Rebels lead throughout the night. The Raiders cut the margin to eight points at halftime and then cut the lead again to three points going into the fourth quarter.

The key stretch for the Raiders was a 12-3 run to end the third quarter. Dee Foster scored six and Christian Anderson added four during that run.

In the fourth, the Raiders fought hard to pull ahead but the Rebels answered every bell. A Carson Todd basket made it 53-52 with 4:54 to play. Both teams exchanged baskets until a steal and a layup by Justin Anderson tied the game at 60-60 with 1:15 to play.

A basket with 18 seconds to play put the Rebels up 62-60. Christian Anderson missed a three pointer and Foster got the rebound and was fouled on the put-back with 1.4 to play.

Josh Greene had 11 points for the Raiders followed by Ty Foster with 10, Justin Anderson with nine and Todd with eight. Christian Anderson scored seven points, followed by Conner Dunlap with three.

Laurens falls to 1-3 on the season and will host Clinton on Friday night at 7:30pm.

In the girl’s game, Byrnes defeated Laurens 66-37. The Rebels led 18-5 after the first quarter, 31-10 at halftime and 51-19 after three quarters.

Cali Heisey led Laurens with 14 points, followed by Qua Fortson with seven and Sandajah Vance with three.

The Lady Raiders fall to 1-2 overall and they will host Clinton on Friday at 6pm.
