Blue Hose rally past Lancers

FARMVILLE, VA. – Francois Lewis scored a career-high 25 points, while Davon Bell and Reggie Dillard added 14 points apiece, to lead the Presbyterian College men's basketball team back from a halftime deficit and to the 78-65 win over Longwood in Big South action Wednesday evening in Farmville, Va.

Stat of the Game

PC shot 44.6% from the field, compared to 43.1% for Longwood, with the Blue Hose hitting nine three-pointers, to the Lancers’ five.  PC was 19-of-32 from the charity stripe and pulled down 37 rebounds.  Longwood connected on 10-of-22 free throw and posted 40 boards.  The Lancers held the turnover margin, 18-13.

Francois Lewis led the team in scoring with 25 points, helped by three three-pointers.  Davon Bell and Reggie Dillard each finished with 14 points, with J.C. Younger pacing the team with nine rebounds.  Isaiah Walton led Longwood with 19 points and seven rebounds.

How It Happened

A close contest in the first half PC held a 13-8 lead with 11:29 to go off a Francois Lewis three-pointer.  A 10-5 run by Longwood with over the next four minutes tied the game at 18-18, with the Lancers taking a five-point lead, 31-26, with just 10 seconds to go.  The Blue Hose ended the half with two free throws to cut the margin to three, 31-28, at the break.

Longwood opened the second half with a 5-2 run to take a 36-30 lead, 18:09 left.  PC responded with a 10-2 run, utilizing threes from Lewis and J.C. Younger, to take its first lead of the half, 40-38, 16:24 on the clock.  Longwood fought back to retake the lead, 42-40 at 15:33, but that would be it for the Lancers as PC stormed back ahead off a 14-2 run to take the 54-44 lead, 11:37 left.  The Blue Hose seemed to have an answer for every potential rally, eventually extending their lead to 15 at 4:09 and again at the 14 second mark.  Longwood scored with five seconds remaining to make it the final 78-65 score.

PC improves to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the Big South, while Longwood drops to 3-12, 0-2.
