Laurens started off hot on offense with Justin Anderson hitting three shots from behind the arc. A quick run from the Eagles cut an 11-2 Raider lead to a 13 all tie with three minutes left in the first. Laurens would take the first quarter with a 19-14 lead.
The defense took over for both squads in the second quarter as the Eagles outscored the Raiders 10-9. Laurens would hold onto a 28-24 lead heading into the half.
The third quarter came up all Greenwood as the Eagles scored 21 points compared to the Raiders 12. Greenwood would lead Laurens 45-40 going into the fourth.
After trading points for most of the quarter, the Raiders found themselves down five with two minutes on the clock when a Greenwood player complained about a call and received a technical foul. Christian Anderson was given the opportunity to shoot four free throws. He made three of the four and after a strong defensive performance from the Raiders, Carson Todd made his way to the free throw line with a chance to tie.
Todd missed his first free throw but made the second to put the Raiders down one. After stops on defense, Greenwood sent Justin Anderson and Dee Foster to the line, putting the Raiders up two with less than a minute to play.
Greenwood tied the game up at 60 with a quick layup and as Christian Anderson drove to the basket he was fouled and made both free throws to take a two-point lead. With less than 20-seconds left to play, several Raiders made a crucial block on the Greenwood shooter and stole the ball away. Todd took the ball down court and laid the hammer down on a dunk to seal the win.
Dee Foster led the Raiders in scoring with 16, followed by Justin Anderson with 15 (3-for-4 from behind the arc). Ryan Dacre closed his senior season with 11, Christian Anderson and Carson Todd both finished with eight, and Josh Greene accounted for six.
The Raiders finished tied for fourth place in the region and their fate for the postseason will be decided by a tiebreaker. That decision will be made on Saturday morning.
In the girls game, the Lady Raiders ended their season with a road loss to the Greenwood Lady Eagles 42-38.
Laurens started off strong with a four-point run before Greenwood responded with four points of their own to tie the game up. After trading shot for shot, the Raiders would take the first quarter 15-14. The Eagles kept things going in the second with six unanswered to begin the quarter. The Raiders turned things around after back-to-back three’s cut the game to two. Laurens went into the half down 25-23.
After Greenwood started pressing Laurens at the start of the half, the Eagles went up five on the Raiders. The change in defense didn’t stop Cali Heisey from hitting two contested three’s to go up one on the Eagles.
The Raiders found themselves tied at 33 with the Eagles leading into the fourth quarter. The Eagles took a late lead over the Raiders after trading leads for most of the fourth quarter. With 20 seconds on the clock, LDHS needed to get a quick shot off but couldn’t find an open look as the Eagles held on to win.
Heisey led all Raiders in scoring in her final game with 15 followed by Portland Wallace, another senior, who finished with 10. Qua Fortson finished with seven on the night. Kanaja Burnside, Ashanti Conway, and Katayah Foggie all finished with two.
